Chopinesque Live at Trinity 2006
(posted 12/14/07)

One of the first live concert performances of 3D visual music using a prototype real-time visualization technology.  The piece is in the style of Chopin only superficially, just as all Romantic era music may sound similar before one becomes acquainted with each composer's particular voice.  The Romantic era was all about softer orchestral textures and smooth shades of surreal harmonic colors.  Sure, they could rock too, but if Baroque music was  generally considered hard, this might be thought soft by comparison.  Listen for the way phrases breath, heave, and burst before collapsing in trickles and resurging for yet another explosive ascension.  The simple recording device used by an audience member was not designed for such a wide dynamic range... although you can clearly hear clipping and overloading at the peaks there's nothing like a live recording, regardless of superficial flaws.
