If your students want to learn how to make music, we can have them burning their first CD within an hour. With today's computer technology, creative engagement begins immediately and students can hear the results right away, regardless of prior training.
Over the years, we have tried several different engagement models and have found that the following approach works best. It is a hybrid performance and residency model that culminates in a performance featuring music created by your students during the residency. The final performance competition borrows a little from the Apollo Amateur Night format and a little from American Idol and is guaranteed to get your students on their feet.
Performance and Residency Sequence
1) Demo Performance
We bring our classical fusion artists to your school and provide a demo performance. Our violinist just recorded J-Lo's last album and our shows incorporate classical remixes by the hottest local DJs... we guarantee your students will pay attention! (We provide the sound system and all equipment).
2) Residency: Creating Student Compositions
After the demo show, we work intensively with two different classes of students for several weeks teaching them the basics of computer composition in their classrooms. (We provide software and keyboards and a video projector, the school must supply at least one laptop or desktop computer for every three students participating).
3) Students Vote to Choose Their Favorites
Each of the two classes vote to select four compositions that will represent their class in the final "American Idol" style performance competition. From this point forward, its all about showcasing the students' work.
4) Final Performance Competition
The selected works from both classes are performed live by our artists in an all-school assembly. An NCAA-style tounament grid is projected overhead while the two classes go head-to-head and the audience picks the winner of each pairing by the volume of their praise. The victor of each pairing stays and we eventually reach an epic showdown climax between the top two tracks with the winners receiving i-Tunes gift cards. (Warning... this will be a LOUD assembly!).
