Student Works Coming Soon... |
|
The student works you will hear in this section won't sound like
"classical" to you any more than Debussy's fusion of Paris Conservatory
training and eastern whole tone scales sounded like the "classical"
that came a generation before him. Most of these students grew up with hip hop as their primary artistic language and we certainly don't try to "convert" them to "dead white man music" or anything like that.
Students start out by creating music that feels natural to them, which means you will hear lots of hip hop-esque loops and beats in their early works. As students begin to grasp the basic fundamentals of harmony and counterpoint, we nudge them toward more free form compositions using some of the traditional contrapuntal and harmonic techniques that we teach. Advanced students have had their works performed by Curtis-trained string players in venues such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and have even gone on to compose film scores for hire.
We are in the process of archiving these works and selections will be made available for sampling once we finalize the transfer to the new web format. Check back here soon!
