History of Arts In Motion

Arts in Motion began in 2002 as a volunteer committee dedicated to the evolution of classical music.  Incorporated in February of 2004, the organization initially developed the education component of its mission, utilizing volunteer instructors to provide computer composition lessons for at-risk youth.  First year funders included the Rosenberg, Douty, and Philadelphia Foundations, the Seybert Institution, the 1957 Charity, the Phoebe W. Haas Charitable Trust A, and the organization’s diverse young board of directors (average age: 28).  In April of 2005, Arts in Motion began to develop the other half of its mission, the presentation of progressive concerts featuring young classical musicians, local electronic musicians, and video artists.  The company has since produced several concerts in collaboration with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Red Bull North America, DJ Radar, and many others.  The company began hiring administrative and program staff in 2006 and will soon employ its first full-time Executive and Artistic Director.
