Arts in Motion's network includes conservatory trained instrumentalists, club-veteran DJs, cutting-edge video artists, and many others. All may be booked through Arts in Motion, which has served as a producer for these artists in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to San Francisco's club Mighty. Lumia Ensemble
Electronic chamber music featuring a fearless fusion of traditional forms with laptop orchestration, piano, violin, and video. The ensemble presents the original compositions of Arts in Motion founder Eric Haeker and showcases the head-splitting pyrotechnics of Arts in Motion Staff Violinist Michelle Bishop. The music is alternately moody, divine, desparate, romantic, and obsessive. Influences include Bach, Radiohead, Brahms, Debussy, and the classic hip hop of the 80s and 90s.
Box Five
The outgrowth of composer Mary Bichner's "classipop" experiments, this ensemble has established an entirely new genre of rock/classical fusion. As comfortable with the Beatles standards as they are with art song in the tradition of Schubert, this group never fails to open the ears. Mary's hauntingly beautiful voice alternately soars and crashes as instrumental layers chase one another in perfect contrapuntal form beneath. Influences include Mozart, classic rock, punk, and math rock (sort of... more tongue in cheek than anything though).
DJ Radar
In 2005, Radar and Arts in Motion helped to premiere the world's first Concerto for Turntable in Carnegie Hall. As a turntablist, Radar has redefined what is possible with his instrument. He has mastered the art of scratching distinct pitches and, with the help of a digital delay, is able to weave complex contrapuntal layers in real time. Paired with string quartet, Radar can bring down the house, whether its Carnegie or a club venue.
